Last week of term

What a fun packed term we have all had.  The children have all grown in confidence, independence and size ! The older children are definitely nearly ready to leave our pre school nest and start their new adventure to big school.  Which make us so happy and proud but also a little sad too that we will not be able to see them everyday.

A few of the things that we have been up to

Trip to big school

We had a lovely trip up to big school to olay in the playground and in the outside area.  The children enjoyed playing and socialising with the reception and year one children and getting to know the teachers a bit better.  This has been fantastic to get the older children ready for the transition to school in September and it is great for the younger ones to get used to the big school environmnet so they will be fully comfortable when it is their turn to start big school.

Julia Donaldson stories

Julia Donaldson is one of our most favourite authors.  We have been reading The Smartest Giant In Town together and we created a Going On A Bear Hunt tuff tray to play with which the children loved.

Jubilee Celebrations

We have been doing royal activities in the lead up to the Jubilee Celebrations.  We made some royal play dough creations.  Made red white and blue cupcakes.  The children have created a huge Union Jack flag to decorate our stall at the Jubilee fair.  We have had a karaoke machine kindly donated to us so the children enjoyed playing with this this week  We even had afternoon tea (late morning tea).  Unfortunately the queen was too busy to attend herself but we played the national anthem in her honour.

We hope that you have a fantastic half term and we will look forward to hopefully seeing some of you on the pre school stall next Saturday.  Fingers crossed for some lovely sunshine xx

Jubilee, Forest School and Term Dates

This Thursday we will be having a celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  It would be lovely if the children could come to preschool wearing red, white and blue clothes.

Forest School Monday

We are pleased that we will be going back to Forest school on Monday.  Please wear wellies as the grass is still wet in the morning and suitable clothing for weather.  Please meet at us at 8.45 at Pickeridge Farm, Cob Lane, Ardingly, RH17 6ST.

If your child is going to be absent please let us know as soon as possible.

Fun at the School

We have been kindly invited to play in the school playground on a regular basis.  We will take everyone up once a week to enjoy the space and facilities that the school has to offer.  We will be changing days often so that we can all enjoy the space.  This is another great opportunity for children going up to school to get get used to the school environment.

Pets

We’ve had a lovely morning looking at pictures of pets and talking about how we care for our pets. If you’ve not had a chance to print off a picture please feel free to mail us one –

It doesn’t have to be your pet it could be someone you know or a family member.

🎉Platinum Jubilee Celebrations 🎉

We are really looking forward to celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in a few weeks time.  There are lots of things going on in the village to celebrate.

Preschool will be having a children’s craft stall with Jubilee related activities.  We really need Mums, Dads and Grandparents to help with the stall either hourly or half hourly slots.  The fete runs from 12pm to 4pm we’d really appreciate any time you could give to help raise money for preschool and celebrate the Jubilee. We’ll have slots before to help set up, during and to help pack up.

If you can help please let us know at pick up, drop off or via email.

John Smith Fund

We have very kindly been given vouchers for all parents at preschool.  These are donated from the villages John Smith Fund.

‘John Smith Fund 2022

Costs are rising rapidly, winter is still here- please enjoy your voucher, and if you don’t need it please feel free to pass it on to someone else. If anyone is in need of more substantial funds, please contact Mother Nicol in strictest confidence: don’t be cold this winter.’

The vouchers will be placed in your child’s bag this week.

An Update

On Thursday we had lots of activities centred around Italy. Some of the children had been talking about their favourite food being pizza. From this we thought it would be great to make our own pizza.  This gave us opportunity to follow a recipe, to weigh ingredients, to mix, to knead and to independently choose our pizza toppings. We also talked about Italy and how some of us use different languages at home.

Esther created a lovely role play cafe area.  The children loved taking on the roles of customers, chefs and staff; writing down orders and making sure their customers were happy.

We have had a dance lesson.

A little bit of messy painting using hands, paintbrushes, sponges and cars!

We celebrated World Book Day! Bringing in our favourite books to share with friends.

Celebrating St David’s Day

More cooking on Shrove Tuesday.  Making pancakes and pancake races!

Looking closely at the spring blossom we found on a walk by creating tissue paper and felt pen pictures.
