Colours

This week we are looking at the primary colours, red, yellow and blue.  At circle time we have been talking about each colour and looking for items around the hall. We also put together the trampoline and had fun bouncing outside.

Travel – Washing Clothes

Today we were preparing our clothes for our holiday.  The children helped to wash clothes in warm soapy water.  They moved the clothes around in the water then squeezed out excess water.  We then went into the garden and hung the washing on the clothes out.  The areas of learning covered were personal, social and emotional development, physical development and understanding the world.

Holidays -Passports

This week we are looking at going on holiday. On Monday the children made their own passports. Outside we played a game, the children had to collect ‘stamps’ from different countries by rolling a coloured dice and going to the correct colour to collect their stamp. This covered areas of maths, understanding the world, literacy and expressive arts.

Queen’s Birthday

On Monday we celebrated the Queen’s Birthday.  The children helped to make sandwiches, spreading the butter and fillings then cutting them up.  We iced cakes with red, white and blue icing.  We discussed how we prepare for a party and what we might need to do.  The children listened to the National Anthem and looked at pictures of The Queen. We also used felt pens to make our own Union Flags and waved them.  Mums and Dads joined us in the garden and we sat down at the table to eat our tea.

Monthly Update

Monthly Update – May

The children are full of life, and are having lots of fun. Everyone is very well settled and forming good friendships.  We have free-flow between indoor and outdoor daily.  This means the children can choose where to find their activities.

We were fortunate enough to be invited to spend a morning in Jenson’s garden recently.  The children were taken on a nature trail as well as being able to play in the fields, and see the miniature ponies.  The highlight of the morning, I think, was splashing in the river.

We have held Cygnets sessions in the hall; these have been a great success.  The PE is the most popular part, and the children a learning to change out of, and back into, their own clothes, remembering to find their clothes where they left them.  In addition, we have been focusing on letter sounds and numbers, shapes and pattern.

Topics we have covered recently include Science – looking at gravity, floating & sinking, and “how things change”.  We made a volcano, which the children were fascinated by.  We have also been looking at different countries of Africa, Italy, Australia and India.   We have talked about their cultures, climate, animals and food.
