Mother’s Day Morning Tea
Inset day
As you know we recently postponed our inset day and it will now on Monday 18th March. This is to coincide with the West Hoathly school inset day and make life easier for parents.
Inset day
Tomorrow (Monday 25th February) was due to be an inset day in line with West Hoathly School but as they have changed theirs we have decided to do the same to make things easier for parents so we will be open as usual.
Ice fun!
Yesterday we made ‘ice cream’ using cornflour and conditioner. The children had so much fun playing with it and serving up lots of ice creams with paper sprinkles. 🍦
Today we had a snow themed tough tray. It was a wonderful sensory experience for the children and the hall had a beautiful light dusting of snow by the end of the day. 😁

School application deadline day
Don’t forget that if your child is due to start school this September (2019), today is the deadline day to submit your application. If you need any help with this then speak to any of the pre school staff.

Parent workshop on the use of screens and technology by children
We are fortunate to have been given the opportunity to provide a workshop for parents relating to use of technology in children. The workshop aims to develop our understanding of and help us positively mange, the impact of disproportionate access to screen time, computer games and social media. The workshop will be led by local Cognitive Neuroscientist, Paula Healy.
Paula has completed an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Sussex. Her research dissertation focused on computer game playing and addiction. Since then, she have been invited to give interactive seminars on the effects of excessive screen exposure in childhood, in schools in the South East, to parents, teachers and teenagers.
“Concerns are regularly raised through the scientific community, education professionals and media about the long-term adverse effects of compulsive screen use on education and mental health. Young people today live in an age of anxiety, loneliness, distraction and addiction. My seminars identify and address the issues around disproportionate electronic media exposure in the psychologically vulnerable young brain.
As well as raising awareness, the content aims to help parents support young people adapt strategies to engage with these digital tools in an organized and productive way. Ultimately, it will help them feel happier, find school and homework easier, have better memory and focus and feel calmer and more connected with their peers.”
The workshop will take place on the evening of Thursday the 28th February. It will take place at West Hoathly Primary School and will be free to attend. If you wish to attend, please email preschoolchair@gmail.com so that we can book you a place.
